The Perfect Flash Game
posted by bloghogger1

Hey guyth,

I'm experiencing a bit of gamers block, so to speak. I can't seem to visualize where I want a few of my projects to go, so I'm going to ask for some feedback.

I'll cut right to the chase: What would make the perfect side-scrolling flash game? That is, if you could produce the perfect flash game, what would you incorporate in it (gameplay and graphics wise, as well as interactivity)?

Would it be flashy and polished? Would it be highly cinematic and stylized? Or would you go for a more gritty, realistic feel? What would be the basic premise? Would there be anything in it that you believe most flash games lack? And while I'm at it, what is one thing you hate about most flash games?

I'm basically trying get ideas for my games so they'll appeal to more people then just my narrow little perception of awesome. I've got an assload of free time on my hands, which means I'm able to put more time and energy into my projects, and I don't want to get too involved until I figure out where I want to go.

Thanks,

-Brian

Guess who's back?

The forum's back, after what I'm told was some cataclysmic event of epic proportions.

Anyway, the forum itself has been re-organized and set back up, but it's lacking those graphics that make it look good (particularly the large banner at the top and the tabs that flank every box.) It does have some color added to it, but the old phpbb default stuff makes it look a bit odd. But it's fully functional again, with sections for just about everything and a couple of extra measures that will keep out spammers and bots...

Including me. I asked Grant if I could fix it up, he let me, and I did. Now being me, I won't sit around and watch it be destroyed, so if you spam it up I'll kick your ass. M'kay? M'kay. We could also use a moderator or two in order to keep it running smoothly when neither me or Grant are on.

So anyway, go have a ball.

question

Hey guys. I have a question.

What could I change to make this website more enjoyable?

If I redesigned the look, I am sure that more people would feel like the site is less of a mess. Also, I really want to get rid of spam, and fix the forum. Also make uploading games easier.

Any comments/suggestions?

Problems at ratubaworld
posted by Grant Cerulo

Hey guys. There are several problems plaguing the site right now. I apologize for this, especially since we just released BOA: 4.

The problems include:

-downed forum. had to start from scratch, but we're working on getting it integrated back into the site soon.

-slow loading pages/no loading. We are having a high period of traffic. I already purchased the highest business plan at my hosting provider, so I am pissed that we still have bandwidth issues... The next plan is like $150 a month, and I can't afford that right now. Maybe I'll start my own serves soon.

-Can't upload BOA: 4 to the site yet. A couple PHP tweaks need to be made.

Anyways, enjoy the site for what it is right now. I promise it will clan up in a bit, I have someone working on the site and he's making the changes.

If you have any artwork you want to send to us, to see if you can work on the next BOA game, please email an attachment or link to me at grant@ratubaworld.com Laughing

A very SPECIAL update...

No, this isn't a special update. I just thought I'd post about some of my projects. They're just too fascinating to not yap about. Anywhoo, here's an in-game character I'm going to use in a future project:

DSGuy001.jpg

I think I've finally mastered the art of drawing with the mouse.

Also, stay tuned for a little preview/demo of my upcoming game, which will feature the "Virtual Training" section and possibly the first level. I'm pretty pleased by how it's turning out, and so far, you're able to man a machine gun, pilot an assault mech, and drive a tank (as well blowing the hell out of a few enemies). Right now, I'm working on coding an assault fighter you'll be able to commandeer. It's working out great.

The game won't be complete anytime soon, but I'll be updating you on my progress. Stay tuned for screenies and the demo.

-Brian

P.S. How was your Xmas? What did you get (if anything)?
